Successful marketing is the most important factor in Business email etiquette. Many people make the mistake of sending business emails to any email address they can get a hold of. Sending unsolicited emails leaves a bad impression, does not help business, and is illegal. The Federal Trade Commission’s CAN-SPAM act has many regulations for business and bulk emailing. Not complying with these guidelines can result in hefty fines from the Government. Knowing your target audience and directing your emails to them is the only way to be successful when sending business emails. Building a targeted email list will make any email marketing campaign successful.
Proper business email etiquette also requires protecting other peoples information while sending bulk emails. Email addresses should be protected like a phone number. Protect the privacy of a contact by not exposing their addresses to others receiving the e-mail. This can be done by using Bcc(blind carbon copy) effectively. Using Bcc while sending bulk emails hides individual email addresses, making the only visible email address the senders.
Of course, the email itself must be in line with Business email etiquette. Excellent Grammar skills and text that is precise and easy to follow is very important. Keeping it simple, and not loading it with heavy sales pitches will keep the reader from deleting it. Formatting is also important, most spam blockers block anything that is overly formatted. Let the reader know they are dealing with a professional, creditable business person, not an identity stealing spammer. Always give the recipient the option to unsubscribe or opt out. If they choose to no longer receive emails, remove them from the list in a timely manner.
Business emails have developed a bad name, making it more difficult to lead a successful marketing campaign. Although it is difficult, it is possible. Being professional and courteous along with using business email etiquette will leave a good impression. Good etiquette paired with great marketing keeps businesses from going into the spam folder.
